Inexistent Realities

Exploring the boundaries between traditional and digital art forms by utilising AI to generate imagery and then processing it to create a photographic aesthetic hinting at deeper meanings and hidden or subjective realities.*

*About AI images

I quickly became swept up in the possibilities offered by accessible AI image generation. At first, the results seemed nothing short of miraculous, astonishing and unbelievable in their novelty. Now, much of that initial sense of wonder has subsided. The mistakes (too many fingers) and the too-smooth, uncanny slickness of AI-generated images have become more apparent.

The quality of these tools is improving, yet many of the images here still bear the uncanny veneer of ‘AI slop*’, a limitation I freely acknowledge and hope to address in future work.

Discovering and playing around with all of this was fun while it lasted, but as I develop my skills, I think those very faults and mistakes are possibilities for creative exploration. At other times, I try to conjure an image of something imagined and see where the process leads.

Despite their imperfections, these images seek to provoke reflection on the evolving nature of art, technology, and perception.
