This Is Not England
Experimental train. In the early 1970s, British Rail's "Project Stratos" explored using maglev trains to solve growing commuter congestion. Built on the former Aylesbury Test Track, prototypes were tested for speed and stability, reportedly reaching up to 120 mph. Despite promising results, the project was ultimately abandoned due to high costs and technical issues. This image is one of the few remaining glimpses into this forgotten chapter of British engineering.
