My Strand Underpass photo on Wikipedia
This is a brief entry merely to note that a photo I took 7 years ago is now being used to illustrate the Wikipedia entry on Strand Underpass.
A broken wall from history
When I was a young lad, a schoolfriend lived in this house up the road from mine in Willesden, northwest London. This wall was there then, over 40 years ago.
Remembering innovative 3d renderer, Bryce
When I was a young teenager, my artistic ambition was to be a science fiction illustrator, but I emerged from 5 years at art school as a fine art painter. Years later, Bryce presented the opportunity for a nostalgic revisit to the fantastical imagery of my young imagination.
Tree cutting sequence
I heard a chainsaw in the street. I tried to ignore it but it was an intrusive noise and I wondered what was taking such a hammering. I looked out to see a man cutting down the large acacia tree in the yard of the house opposite.
Highbury Station Road: changes over time
I happened to be meeting a friend for lunch outside Highbury and Islington Underground Station last Friday and had some time to kill, so I walked round the corner, where it was less busy, looking for something to photograph.
I remembered taking a picture years before in Highbury Station Road - when I was still new to photography and still thought HDR was the best thing ever. This is the photo I took then. I was deliberately aiming for a spooky, timeless feel.

Garden room project
The removal of this old toilet and it's cistern marks the beginning of the work to convert an ugly area of the house into a modern, useful space.
A boat trip from Oxford
Last Sunday I had the great pleasure of being invited along on a boat trip down the River Thames - a celebration of my partner's uncle's 80th birthday.
We set off at noon from Folly Bridge in Oxford, passed through two locks, sailed as far as Abingdon, turned round and came back.
My part of London as it used to be
One of the old favourites on my bookshelf is a book I gave to my father many years ago and ultimately inherited, the Village London Atlas: Changing Face of Greater London, 1822-1903 (The village atlas), by the Village Press.
A boat propellor stirs up the seabed (video 00:36)
In June 2013, we took a day-boat to Sedir Island, also known as Cleopatra Island. After some time exploring the island, the boat readied for the journey back. As it turned in the water, it's propellor churned up the shallow, sandy seabed…
Merton Abbey Mills
I went for a a wander by the River Wandle at Merton Abbey Mills. A Wandle Wander. Merton Abbey Mills is a former textile factory in the parish of Merton in London, England near the site of the medieval Merton Priory, now the home of a variety of businesses, mostly retailers.

Istanbul is online
Just as the Turkish government has allowed YouTube again in Turkey, I've uploaded the last of the photos selected from my trip to Istanbul in April. 205 images selected from 519 taken in total.
A peacock and a cat (video 00:46)
A peacock has a standoff with a young kitty. The cat is just fascinated by the peacock's feathers but the bird isn't having any of it.
