Commemoration of the 353rd Anniversary of the Birth of the Founder, Sir John Cass, Kt
As I noted last year in this blog entry, and as I have done for several years, I attended the commemoration of the birth of Sir John Cass, Founder of Sir John Cass's Foundation yesterday, 12 February 2014.
The loss of the magical sense of the world
This is a powerful extract from a piece in the Guardian by Lucy Mangan, whose writing I oftentimes enjoy. It resonated with me so I wanted to record it in my blog.
Dashcam video: Rotherhithe Tunnel (video 01:30)
This is a dashcam video of driving under the River Thames in London from south to north, via the Rotherhithe Tunnel.
I saw this dramatic cloud formation from my office yesterday
This photograph of an impressive cloud formation was my daily photo journal entry for Tuesday 28 January 2014.
Water pouring out (video 00:14)
This is going on right now. They're changing all the water pipes in our street but the water main has broken outside the house. The effect is of a nice, calming, babbling brook - as long as you don't look out the window at the muddy reality.
Wrong boots
Today, for the first time in my life, I managed to go out without noticing that I was wearing two different types of boots today.
1st August 2013
It’s the first of August. I took this photo at about 6.50am. Too sleepy then to realise that this is appropriate for today's daily photo journal post.
Popular Victoria Line fabric
You can actually buy this fabric at the London Transport Museum Shop. It's called "moquette" which is a type of woven pile fabric in which cut or uncut threads form a short dense cut or loop pile.
An accident on the A3 this morning
It must have just happened right in front of me because the traffic was moving swiftly and only slowed as we were right up close enough for me to grab this photo.
Local Starbucks needs to regrade their coffee bean display
This display that show the process of making coffee beans from the raw to the final roasted state has gotten all mixed up by all the many bored people who can't help but fiddle with it while waiting for their coffees to be made.
Steve Jobs spotted outside a cafe in south-west London (lookalike)
Getting on the number 57 bus at Tooting Broadway, I went upstairs to find a seat on the top deck. As I sat down and looked out of the window, I did a double-take because of how closely this person resembled Steve Jobs.
Ever so slight packaging overkill
I just received a package from Amazon containing an SD card reader (it's that tiny little white box). As you can see, it arrived in perfect condition. Thank you Amazon. I think your packaging was a little bit too much though.
Fecilitations: an awkward spelling mistake
I was feeling pleased with myself because I had been organised enough this year to design some custom-made greetings cards in good time for Christmas.
More objects from Turkey
The first is some little Afghan spice pots I got in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. The second is a handmade, rustic pestle and mortar I bought in the farmers market in Akyaka.
Jug in the form of a sheep
I bought this jug in the form of a sheep a couple of weeks ago in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. It came with six little cups, also carrying the wool motif.
Guitars etc
Three photos I took this week with my iPhone. Two of them, coincidentally, about guitars.
